When Doctors Neglect To Monitor Fetal Conditions During Childbirth
It is important to realize that hospital staff members must follow many protocols to ensure a baby’s well-being during labor and delivery. In order to display possible warning signs, monitors are set up to display dangers and indicate if a baby is in distress. These monitors can provide important and timely information that allows for intervention that can prevent damage.
When a woman goes into labor, an unborn baby is monitored for oxygen. If a medical professional detects an abnormal pattern, he can perform an emergency C-section. These warning signs may include:
- Prolonged contractions
- Hyper-contractions
- Abnormal baby heart rate
- Uterine overstimulation
If a medical professional fails in his or her duty to properly attend to mothers and babies during delivery, serious injury can result that has lasting (physical or psychological) damage. This may include quadriplegia or retardation.
If your baby suffered fetal distress during delivering, you need to understand why. While nothing can undo such damage, it is important that medical professionals are held accountable and that you are fairly compensated.
